Our city is experiencing many interruptions in the bus system as they are having a hard time finding drivers.  I don't know what the answer is.

Yesterday I had a hard time going to my medical appointment which was easy before.  The transfer bus was cancelled and there isn't another bus at the transfer point that goes to the hospital for the test.

I was basically stuck there and had to take a bus going back to go home.

I'm going to sign up for Udrive in case this happens again.

I think this problem exist just about every city and town in Canada. I see help wanted signs all over the place, if I were younger, I'd jump at a chance for a second job.

Camper, in my area we have a firm called Handy Transit, you make an appointment, and the Handy Transit will pick you up for a fee, take you to your destination and return later for you.

I checked and Thunder Bay also has a Handy Transit: https://www.thunderbay.ca/en/city-hall/handitransit.aspx  have a peek at, see if you can squeeze in somewhere.

You might also check with your local senior's community center, they may also offer rides.

Well I'm pretty good at the bus schedule and checking on Google Maps for alternate routes.  The problem this time was that at the hub the connecting bus was cancelled and no alternates were going anywhere near my destination.  If it wasn't for a medical appointment it wouldn't be important.  I could just catch any bus and continue on.  They sell a senior bus pass for 55 dollars which means I could get on and off any time I feel like it. And the bus pass is deductible from income tax in Ontario.

It's rare that they cancel two buses in a row. The transfer hub was at the College so any students wouldn't be able to get home until that bus was made available. Here's the thing though, when I phone the transit office they don't know that the bus has been cancelled which is crazy.  When a bus is cancelled the information should be available for anyone phoning in.
We have a new city council.  I'll rely the information to a newly elected councilor and give them a job.

Anyway.  Thanks for the link.  Much appreciated especially for a medical appointment.

What happened is that people realized during the pandemic that they could get along without having to work for cheap wages.

The U.S. federal minimum wage hasn't seen an increase for ten years.

And they cry about immigrants?  Those are the only ones that will work picking fruit for the low wages they pay.

Just read a paper article where Canada loves the immigrants.
We get a lot on Mexican works around where I live, they are ok people, shop at the local stores, ride bikes around. Covid did a bad job on some last couple of years, we lost a couple of guys to covid.
